The whiter the paper the better your copies will look. Be sure to consult your printer documentation before you feed very heavy paper through it - otherwise you risk seriously damaging your printer.Ĭontrast is a key element between the ink and the paper. Heavy weight paper can lend an aura of importance and seriousness not found in flimsier products, and they will give you crisper text and less ink bleed, however if you're buying heavier weights of paper do bear in mind that every inkjet printer has a maximum paper thickness it can handle. Heavier, thicker inkjet papers feel more substantial and can lend visual weight to a project. Paper used to print photos is usually thicker, with the average about 62 lbs. Terms such as heavyweight do not necessarily indicate a heavier paper than other comparable papers.

The bond papers which include most inkjet photo papers are found in the 24 to 71 lb. Different types of paper have their own weight scale. Paper weight may be expressed in pounds (lb.) or as grams per square meter (g/m2). Standard 20# paper is used for everyday printing and copying, and for high-volume needs. It also allows less light to pass through. Higher weight paper is more durable and has a more substantial feel. The higher the paper weight, the thicker the sheet of paper. Therefore, 500 sheets of standard 20# paper weighs 5 pounds. Each of these sheets is equivalent to four letter size sheets. Printer paper weight refers to the weight of a 500-sheet ream of 17" x 22" paper. Inkjet Paper Characteristics There are really five main characteristics to consider when selecting inkjet paper for a project:

And for whichever type of printer paper you select, the settings in the printer driver must be adjusted to suit the paper, so that the right amount of ink is delivered. Successful printing requires the inkjet paper to have exactly the right degree of absorbency to accept the ink but prevent its sideways spread. Need paper? We recommend Amazon: Buy Inkjet Paper Now They print black and white documents quickly and flawlessly, and they can be used for a variety of different color printing needs including photographs, signs, invitations, labels, cards and presentation materials. However, there are many images that can be printed on tracing paper for screen printing use and the screen printed results will still be fine.Inkjet printers are arguably today's most versatile printers. If you examine the prints closely and carefully, you will also notice some almost microscopic rough edges so don't expect transparency quality prints especially with a high detail design. I often use 80/85gsm but sometimes use heavy 112gsm paper. Some brands seems to be better than others. I've tried canson, gateway, rotring, staedtler, and others.

I am not sure if I understood correctly but someone seems to have posted that there are tracing papers for inkjet printers but I have not tried them. You can also press the images firm against the glass to see.Īlso try different brands and thickness. Tracing paper is cheap and the only way to find out if printed images are suitable for exposure is to print some and see for yourself. Some images are more suitable than others. Sometimes there are minor curls or waves like what you see when wet paper dries but often, these can be solved with some weights against the glass(or a vacuum top). I use tracing paper more than transparencies with an inkjet printer.
